GFC is extremely proud of the role we play in developing the industry we serve. Our deep commitment to the Hispanic Contractors Association de San Antonio is a perfect example of how GFC gives back.

Linda Gomez-Whitener didn’t plan on running to head up the Hispanic Contractors Association de San Antonio’s Board of Directors—again. With the arrival of her third grandchild and her busy role as president of GFC, Linda wanted to keep her schedule a bit more flexible. But her deep commitment to the goals of HCA meant the time wasn’t right quite right to step back.

"I feel so passionate about the organization that I wanted to ensure it was in a very strong position first. We have important priorities for the year—to grow and retain the membership—and to capitalize on the resources we have," says Linda, who is a founding member of HCA since its inception in 1996.

In 2010, the HCA received two grants from the Department of Labor. The first was a Susan Harwood grant that provides funds for four-hour Occupation Health and Safety Act (OSHA) Record-Keeping training to over 350 members and non-members. The second is Targeted Topics grant providing customized training to establish a small business safety program with courses to begin in the first quarter of 2011.
